Crawford County Fair Q & A

Why were the fair dates changed?
The Crawford County Fair Board has worked very hard in an effort to contract with a carnival that would honor our traditional second weekend in August (second Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Unfortunately, the carnival we have had in the past was unable to provide us with these dates due to the way August weekends fall. The Carnival has also had a long-standing contract with other events that bring in more revenue for them. The past Carnival was only able to provide us with dates that fell during the State Fair. After reviewing the survey results, the Fair Board found that one of the many things our fairgoers come to our fair for is the animals. With the State Fair being the same time as our County Fair, fairgoers wanting to see more animals, and the conflict for exhibitors showing at the State Fair, the Fair Board felt it was best to seek out a different carnival and a different weekend. Our search began by contacting numerous carnivals. We provided the carnivals with a fact sheet of what the Board was looking for in a carnival, expectations, and dates. The Board was able to find a carnival that was able to honor the historical fair dates later in August.
We are proud to have Earl’s Rides as our carnival. Earl’s Rides is a family friendly carnival with fun rides for all ages at low cost, food menus for special diets (gluten free items), and best of all—a reputation for a clean and well run carnival. We are happy to promote our fair, which is now August 26-30, 2015.

When do I make payment for my fair entry’s?
You will make payment when you pick up your fair tags.

Why is the Horse Show date before the fair now?
The Horse Show has been moved to before the fair per exhibitor’s wishes. The Crawford County Fair Board asked the Horse Department Superintendent to provide them with the best date for their department’s exhibitors. The Horse Department Superintendent completed a survey and the majority voted for Saturday, August 22. The Fair Board approved their request.

Do I need to complete a poster like we have in the past?
In departments such as small animals, horses, shooting sports, foods revue, clothing revue and cake revue exhibits, which are all pre-fair events, each of these fair entries do need to have a form completed and exhibited at the fair to receive state premium. The form does replace the poster. The form has the same information on it as the poster request. The form allows each department to better display each exhibitor’s information clearly and in a friendly manner.

Do I need to complete a poster like we have in the past?

Instead of a poster, an exhibitor in pre-fair events, such as small animals, horses, shooting sports, foods revue and cake revue are required to fill out and exhibit a project description form which will provide the same information as the posters once provided.

How does one bring something new to the fair? How does one get it approved?

In order to have something new brought to the fair, it needs to be approved by the Crawford County Fair Board. How one goes about change at the Crawford County Fair is by contacting the Fair Coordinator and sharing the general idea. The Coordinator will put your request on the next Fair Board meeting (request needs to be ten days before board meeting) agenda and you will be able to come to the meeting and present your idea. The Fair Board will then discuss the proposal, determines if they need more information, and make a decision accordingly.

How does one bring something new to the fair? How does one get it approved?

Except for a request to add a new item to an already existing department, which needs to be presented to the respective department superintendent, all other requests to bring something new to the fair need to be approved by the Crawford County Fair Board.
The first step in the process is to complete suggestion card then contact the department superintendent or if not department idea then contact Fair Coordinator to provide suggestion idea. We are always exploring different options for ways to enhance/improve everyone’s fair experience. There are so many dimensions to the fair and any suggestions or changes that would help us build upon the foundation that’s already been established is most welcome. With that in mind, the best way to see effective change/s at the Fair or Fairgrounds is to share your suggested change, why you believe the change is necessary and also include how you and other volunteers will be able to help implement the change.
